G20 Energy Ministers to meet in San Carlos de Bariloche, Argentina

13 Jun 2018

The G20 Energy Ministers’ meeting will take place this Friday, on 15 June, in San Carlos de Bariloche in Argentina. This high-level gathering will be an opportunity to highlight the steady and meaningful progress achieved on energy efficiency cooperation under the framework of the G20 Energy Efficiency Leading Programme under IPEEC’s coordination - as well as to discuss potential new work on behaviour change and energy efficiency. This issue, which has been championed by the Argentinian G20 Presidency both internationally and domestically, has the potential to expand and enhance the efforts and impact of the excellent work accomplished by the existing G20 Task Groups to date. Acting as missing link between policy, technology and individuals or businesses’ choices and decisions, behaviour change brings to energy efficiency a human aspect that is too often overlooked, and therefore hinders the effectiveness of more classical policies.

This Ministerial meeting will be preceded by the second meeting of the Energy Transitions Working Group (ETWG), which will take place on 13-14 June, also in Bariloche. The ETWG, which aims to prepare discussions to be held on 15 June, will cover the range of energy topics for which it has responsibilities, including: energy transitions, energy access and data transparency, renewables, removal of fossil fuel subsidies, and of course, energy efficiency.

IPEEC’s Executive Director, Mr. Benoit Lebot, will be representing IPEEC at both meetings, and looks forward to discussing and initiating new collaborative projects to make sure that energy efficiency continues to contribute to the success of our energy transitions, in the most meaningful and effective way possible.
