G20 Leaders approve G20 Energy and Climate Plan, including G20 Energy Efficiency Investment Toolkit

10 Jul 2017

On 7-8 July, G20 Leaders meeting in Hamburg, Germany, agreed to the G20 Climate and Energy Plan for Growth. Supported by almost all G20 countries in their final Leaders’ Declaration, the new Plan calls for enhanced collaboration and investments into energy efficiency to ensure affordable, reliable, and sustainable energy systems accessible to all – in line with the Paris Agreement and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal #7.

The Plan notably acknowledges the G20 Energy Efficiency Investment Toolkit, which was developed by the IPEEC-G20 Energy Efficiency Finance Task Group (EEFTG) and provides a set of options to scale-up energy efficiency investments in G20 economies. Both the broader work of the EEFTG and the 2016 G20 Energy Efficiency Leading Programme (EELP), of which it is a part, will be further developed in 2018 under the G20 Presidency of Argentina.

IPEEC will continue to coordinate the implementation of the G20 EELP to ensure all G20 countries can seize the numerous economic, environmental and social benefits of greater energy efficiency deployment.
