G20 Global Summit on Financing Energy Efficiency, Innovation and Clean Technology to be held on 12 June in Tokyo, Japan

25 Apr 2019

On 12 June, 2019, the International Partnership on Energy Efficiency Cooperation (IPEEC) and United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP FI) will co-host the G20 Global Summit on Financing Energy Efficiency, Innovation and Clean Technology on behalf of the G20 Energy Efficiency Finance Task Group in Tokyo, Japan.

The G20 Global Summit on Financing Energy Efficiency, Innovation and Clean Technology will take stock of global finance and investments into energy efficiency, innovation and low- carbon technologies. The event will provide the opportunity for leading financial institutions and policy makers to assess the state of play and define elements of action for G20 economies for the new decade, thereby supporting G20 economies’ objectives to achieve sustainable energy transitions.

Accelerating innovation and investment in clean technologies is critical to bridge the existing emissions gaps identified between country pledges and activities, and those that are necessary to advance global climate neutrality in a timely way. For G20 economies, greater investments in low-carbon technologies and innovation can, in addition, contribute to their sustainable development goals, strengthen the competitiveness of companies operating in the environmental-conscious economy of the 21 century and enhance overall economic resilience.

The event reflects the recognition by G20 countries that finance and investment into innovation, clean technology and energy efficiency play a crucial role in addressing energy transition challenges.

The event is by invitation only and will take place on 12 June 2019, in Tokyo, Japan.  To inquire about the event and register interest, please contact Jurei Yada at IPEEC and  Martin Schoenberg at UNEP FI.
