16 Oct 2019

IPEEC’s G20 Energy Efficiency Finance Task Group (EEFTG) has released its new publication, “Energy Efficiency Finance and Investment: Stocktake report 2019”, outlining key findings from the G20 Global Summit on Financing Energy Efficiency, Innovation & Clean Technology it organised on 12 June 2019 in Tokyo, Japan. The purpose of this official G20 side event, which took place back-to-back with the G20 Ministerial Meeting on Energy Transitions and Global Environment for Sustainable Growth, was to convene representatives from the global economic and political systems to identify ways for finance and policy to work together in order to accelerate the transition towards a more sustainable future.

The report summarises Summit participants’ insights, contributions and discussions, complemented by additional findings from the multiple bilateral dialogues the EEFTG conducted in 2019 with policymakers, financial institutions and other stakeholders. The report thus contains insights into the latest trends and best practices from each stakeholder group on the topic of financing innovation and clean technology, as well as energy efficiency, adding to the conclusions and recommendations issued by the EEFTG in its landmark 2017 Energy Efficiency Investment Toolkit.

The Summit concluded with the launch of the Tokyo Declaration, included in the report, which outlines priority action areas and recommendations to stakeholders to improve the visibility and energy performance of assets held by financial institutions. As a forward-looking statement, it sets the scene for more innovative and ambitious practices to be taken up by all stakeholders to drive energy efficiency and the energy transition forward.
